FSR 5 Brings Real Multi-Frame Generation to RX 7000+
AMD’s long-awaited FSR 5 finally rolled out as part of the recent driver branch — and the headline is multi-frame generation for the RX 7000 and 9000 series.
FSR 5 introduces 2x and 3x frame generation — meaning a 60fps base game can render at an effective 120 or 180 fps. Independent testing across 14 launch titles puts visual quality at roughly DLSS 4 parity at 2x mode.
Bigger surprise is supported hardware. AMD opened FSR 5 to RX 7900 XT/XTX, the new 9070 family, and the upcoming 9080 — wider than initial speculation. RX 6000-series cards retain FSR 4-equivalent functionality.
The Circuit Take
FSR 5 is the strongest answer AMD has produced to DLSS in five years. Genuinely competitive at 2x. 3x mode still needs another iteration.
